“It creates, frankly, what the amateur world has needed for the last 20, 25 years, that kind of one-stop opportunity for the players to put all of their efforts and focus into,” said Chris Capozzi, Program 15’s vice president of baseball operations.įor Booth, the agreement represents another step toward his ultimate goal: to provide amateur baseball prospects with the most comprehensive approach to their development and to foster an amateur baseball environment that helps grow the game while lessening the financial and travel burdens on families. The integration will include cutting-edge technology platforms from Stack Sports, such as Sports Connect, TeamInn, StackAthlete and GamePlan into its operations to benefit players and families. In addition to partnering on the two showcase series, the collaboration between FSS and Stack Sports will give FSS participants access to Stack Sports technologies, used by more than 20 MLB clubs and thousands of youth organizations, that will help athletes with registration, travel and recruitment and will provide data-driven performance insights. It’s OK to crisscross (the country) when you need to, certainly, but we don’t need to have families of four making life decisions for (one of them) to play baseball.” “I’m passionate that these kids should be in their area developing. “It allows us to let families be families, puts more money back in their pockets, in their communities and in their travel organization or their coaches who are local,” Booth said. By coordinating the showcase programs, it will make it easier for the athletes and their families to manage their summer showcase schedule, while also giving MLB scouting staffs a more streamlined schedule of events to attend. The Future Stars Series will collaborate with Area Code Baseball, one of the largest and most well-respected amateur baseball showcase platforms, to increase efficiencies in the summer circuit and provide more value to the MLB scouts who manage the selection process for the coveted Area Code Games. Now the series is teaming with Stack Sports, the premier software provider and event operator in baseball to continue enhancing player development while providing more opportunities for young athletes. First-round picks Dylan Crews and Tommy Troy were two of the 33 players selected in the most recent MLB Draft who had participated in FSS. Alumni of FSS include Grayson Rodriguez, Drew Gilbert, Tink Hence, Ricky Tiedemann, Zac Veen and several other top young talents. In addition to providing in-depth development plans for players, Program 15 launched the New Balance Future Stars Series (FSS) in July 2016, an international event series that includes player development coaching, local scouting and development combines and tournaments, and national tournaments with showcase games in MLB stadiums, including Fenway Park. Over the past seven-plus years, Program 15 has grown into a significant presence on the amateur baseball scene. He wanted to give back to the game by helping players develop in much the same way that Davis, Strawberry and others did through The Program in the 1980s. After the 2015 season, he and the Mariners parted ways and Booth decided to take his career in a different direction. After a nine-year playing career in the minor and independent leagues, Booth spent eight years as a scout for the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners. The Program left an indelible mark on Booth, who has dedicated his life to the game ever since.
